The proposal to organize an European Shooting Confederation
(ESC) was first made at the 1960 Olympic Games. After several years of preparation, the
ESC was founded as the first continental association within the UIT (today ISSF) on
the European Championships on August 18, 1969, in Plzeň TCH. As a
forerunner, a Committee for European Affairs had
existed within the UIT since the 1958 World Championships in Moskva URS.
